'The locals find it very interesting'

Brainchild of Diana Hawkins & Suzan Houching,THE WOODLANDER group of semi-professional, professional and amateur artists, woodcarvers and potters was formed in 1990. Based at Burley, near Ringwood, in Hampshire's spectacular New Forest, the artists are truly 'locals', living either in or around the forest area.

THE 2007 EXHIBITION will take place from Saturday 8th Sept through to Sunday 23rd Sept. 10am – 5pm daily.

THE WOODLANDERS was originally formed sixteen years ago, when seven Forest artists got together to put on an exhibition sharing expenses. Many other local artists have taken part since and this year the group consists of eight painters, two woodcarvers and one potter.

The artists include DAPHNE ELLMAN, who is as well known for her articles in national and worldwide art publications as she is for her paintings. COLIN COURTICE, SARAH LYN SIBLEY and SUZAN HOUCHING share a working Studio in Burley Village where their work can be seen throughout the year. Colin also has a studio in Brockenhurst. And new comer to the Woodlanders is BRENDA FARRELL who shares a working studio with COLIN, LYN and SUZAN in Burley Village, where their work can be seen throughout the year. Colin also has a studio at Brockenhurst. ALAN LANGFORD and CLAIRE KITCHER have taken a year out, but are still working in their own studios, as is ROSEMARY GRANT. TONY MERCIER, a well known landscape artist from Southampton, and CLIVE DANIELS who has a very original way with landscapes will also be with us. Completeing our list of painters is our 2nd newcomer BRIAN HARRID from Hythe who will be showing some very individual work. Woodcarving is the speciality of BRIAN WILLIAMS and JOE WILDING. PENNY STEVENS, and CAROLE DICKSON will exhibit their delightful and very usable pottery.

What makes THE WOODLANDERS exhibitions special is the busy programme of demonstrations by the artists throughout the exhibition period when they are only too pleased to talk about their work. Refreshments are another reason people flock to THE WOODLANDERS. They know they can relax and chat and enjoy the ambience for which the group is renowned. In fact many visitors spend all day with them!

As in previous years, the exhibition is in support of DIABETES UK, a favourite charity of the group, including the organiser Suzan Houching, who has been a diabetic for some thirty years.

Over the past sixteen years since their formation, THE WOODLANDERS have earned quite a reputation for their exhibitions. Their 2007 Exhibition will be equally as exciting and enjoyable.

In addition to the large number of framed original work,
portfolio items, prints and greeting cards will be available.
